Chateau Seguin (I didn’t know it before September last year), isn't the property which steals headlines, although Robert Parker gave it 91-93 in vintage 2009 and Swiss wine critic, Rene Gabriel loves it. It’s situated in Canejan village close to Pessac and its appellation is Pessac-Leognan. Darriet family owns it and the man in charge is Denis Darriet, who before coming to Seguin, worked in Paris as jeweler for famous jewelry makers like f.i. Cartier and made special creations for the most famous celebrities in the world.

I became very impressed with the wines during my first visit at Seguin in September 2010, and in March 2011, I had a vertical there from vintage 2004 to 2010. I must admit I was left breathless while tasting 2010. This was an outstanding if not sensantional performance. Unforgetable visit.

Seguin is certainly a property to watch out in coming vintages.

SEGUIN 2010 (barrel sample) 95+p

Tasted twice - last time in September 2011. Consistent notes. This wine was a great surprise for me. To have such fabulous nose of black cherries and so intense silky black fruit on the palate, combined with stunning balance and complexity, was just a great moment. This is undoubtely the best wine this property has ever made and a fantastic achievement. Wow! Astonishing quality of this vintage was confirmed in September 2011!!

SEGUIN 2009 93p

Tasted three times - last time in September 2011. Consistent notes. Very intense wine with gobs of blackberries, black cherries, stunning balance, finesse and elegance, and sophisticated touch. Great effort indeed.

SEGUIN 2008 92p

Tasted twice - last time in September 2011. Consistent notes. Not as flamboyant as 2009, but there's nothing to complain about. This wine was very mineral, multifacetted, well constructed and structured, big on the palate and with sophisticated touch. Splendid effort for the vintage.

SEGUIN 2007 87p

Tasted in March 2011. Light, round and pleasant, earthy flavors, short aftertaste. Won't win by additional cellaring.

SEGUIN 2006 90p

Tasted in March 2011. Very attractive on the nose, well-knitted, elegant and with firm finish. Nice effort.

SEGUIN 2005 92p

Tasted twice - last time in March 2011. Consistent notes. More of everything here than in Seguin 2004. More depth, more concentration, riper fruit and longer finish. Very well made.

SEGUIN 2004 91p

Tasted in March 2011. Lovely nose of black fruit and milk chocolate, soft texture, splendid balance, elegant and smooth finish. Very attractive wine, ready to drink.

CONFIDENCE(S) DU CHATEAU SEGUIN 2004 92p

Tasted in September 2010. Denis Darriet makes this wine from selection of best parcels of Seguin. Utterly impressive wine showing incredibly aromatic black fruit (blueberries), tight, concentrated, very complex, well-structured and splendid long finish. Excellent treat!
