ABOUT ME

I'm at Beau-Sejour Becot on final day of primeur tastings 2006 - April 2007

My name is Izak Litwar, born in 1946. I work as a laboratory technician in Danish Medicines Agency and in my free-time I taste and write about wine as a freelance wine writer.

BORDEAUX has always been my preffered wine-region. IMO, no other wine region can provide so many wines of excellent quality for winelovers. They have diversity of styles, complexity, finesse and sophisticated touch - we want and like all that!

Between 1985 and 1990, I had been writing about Bordeaux in Det Danske Vinblad, Vinjournalen and Vinmagasinet. From 1994 to 2005 I contributed with articles about Bordeaux to Danish magazine about food & wine, Smag & Behag, and Danish annual wine chronicle Vinårbog. From beginning of 2006 to the end of 2007, I wrote articles about Bordeaux for Danish wine-magasine, VINMAGASINET.

In 1998 my book about Pomerol containing profiles of over 50 properties was published in Danish.

I've visited Bordeaux many times - first trip was in 1984, followed by trips in 1985, 1987, 1988, 1990 and 1993. Since 1995 I've been to Bordeaux every year in May/June, but twice in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 (visiting Bordeaux in April and September/October during harvest).

Since 2002 and starting with vintage 2001, I've participated every year in Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux barrel tastings of new vintage for invited journalists in March/April.

My tasting experience of Bordeaux wines is also based on many vertical/horisontal tastings with 20+ vintages of a given château - f.i. CANON back to 1948 (1988), CHEVAL BLANC back to 1921 (1988), 25 wines from the high-heralded 1959 vintage (1989) and BEYCHEVELLE, LATOUR, MONTROSE, PALMER and PONTET CANET verticals between  1990 and 1999, all tastings taking place in Copenhagen. Normally, I ask a given château for presenting me 3-4 recent vintages  when visiting Bordeaux.

I tasted many old wines from Bordeaux - the oldest red Bordeaux I've tasted is Palmer 1865, the oldest white sweet Bordeaux is d'Yquem 1847 and the oldest dry white Bordeaux is Domaine de Chevalier 1941.

My website is independent, non-profit and free to use. No add-ons and no sponsor. I want to keep my website simple without fancy layout, packed with lots of information.

Main purpose of this website is to share my impressions and TNs with fellow wine-lovers. Enjoy!
